Accessibility
Swiss companies are also affected by the EU law on accessible websites.

The EU has created clear guidelines for digital accessibility with new directives and the European Accessibility Act (EAA). Websites and mobile applications must be accessible to all users so that people with disabilities can use the interface without any problems. The law will come into force in EU member states on 28 June 2025. From this date onwards, websites and online shops in Switzerland that serve customers in the EU must comply with accessibility requirements (WCAG 2.1).

Which Swiss websites are affected?
- Operators of e-commerce platforms and online shops
- News providers with subscription models
- Advertising platforms
- Professional services such as healthcare providers, tourism companies, transport providers, financial service providers, translation agencies or advertising agencies
- Entertainment and media providers
- Telecommunications providers
- Software providers, provided that end users can interact with the user interface
Are there any exceptions?
- Companies with an annual turnover of less than €2 million and fewer than 10 employees
- Providers facing a disproportionate burden, for whom the adjustments would be of minimal benefit, e.g. niche providers with a very small user base
- Special content, such as map services
